History Club

The History club was started in 1969 by George Huber, a former PCHS teacher. The goal of the History club has always been to provide students of all socio-economic backgrounds with exposure to historical, cultural, and recreational experiences throughout North America.

The PCHS History club goes on a trip during the May long weekend each year to places such as: Virginia, Montreal, Boston, Toronto, and Ottawa. In addition they often go on smaller day trips throughout the school year. The club fundraises to help subsidize the cost of their trips. They often cater food for local organizations for many of their fundraisers. These trips often cost around $500 a person, but through fundraising the cost to each student is approximatly $200 plus the cost of food.

The History club meets at lunchtime throughout the school year, as well as caters throughout the month of December. To join the History club please see Mrs. Carl in room 210 to get your name put the waiting list.

Mr. Fletcher is very excited to welcome back award winning author and well known adventurer Adam Shoalts to Port Colborne High School on Nov. 8th.

Mr. Shoalts will talk to students about his 4 month,  solo expedition into the unknown Hudson Bay lowlands.  He crossed  just crossed 4,000 kilometres of remote, Arctic mainland Canada with no one to keep him company but the wolves and bears bold enough to investigate him and his canoe.

Adam is a professional explorer and adventurer whose trail-blazing expeditions into the last unexplored places on the planet have been covered by the BBC, CNN, CTV News, CBC, The Guardian, and other media around the world.

His exploring career has included discovering waterfalls, mapping rivers, leading expeditions sponsored by the Royal Canadian Geographical Society and Mountain Equipment Co-op, numerous archaeological digs, and tracking down elusive flora and fauna.

Trained as a cartographer, archaeologist, and historian, and having grown up in rural Canada perfecting his skills in bushcraft, Shoalts has built birchbark canoes and worked as a survival instructor.

The presentation begins at 10 AM in the auditorium.
