Thurston’s, Oskam giving glimpse into operations

Twenty Port Colborne High School grades 11 and 12 students will have a chance to network with industry professionals a week from Friday when they tour two local manufacturing facilities.

Co-op education teacher Shawn Coers said the students will learn about industry and explore their potential career options when they visit Thurston’s Machine Co. and J. Oskam Steel Fabricators.

“These visits will give students a better idea of what takes place in a large scale shop operation,” Coers said in a release. “Students will have the chance to network with industry professionals, ask questions and learn about the type of machinery used and the skills needed for a career in those fields.”

Thurston Machine Co. Ltd. is a fabricating, machining, assembling and testing facility that specializes in the manufacture of equipment for the steel, heavy off-road truck and rail industries around the world.
