OFSAA BOUND!

Oct 23, 2020
The Midget Boys Cross Country team will take on Ontario's best

The Port Colborne High School Midget Boys Cross Country team have qualified for the OFSAA Ontario finals on Nov. 3, 2018 at the Christie Lake Conservation Area in Dundas.  The event will bring together the top teams from across Ontario.  OFSAA is one of the largest cross-country races in North America, and has some of Canada’s greatest distance runners as its former participants, such as Canadian Olympic marathoner, Reid Coolsaet.

The Port High team qualified for the event by first winning the High School Zone meet and then finishing 3rd at the Southern Ontario championship despite not having one of their top runners in the lineup.

"I have been very fortunate to have such a strong and dedicated group of runners come out for the team this year. Every race they have achieved better results than the last and I expect nothing less as we go into our final race of the season. The OFSAA Championship is a major achievement for our program, as we have been working hard to develop the mindset of excellence here at Port High and OFSAA is definitely a step in the right direction." said head coach Scott Vanderlee

Mike Smith, the 2018 Championship Convener, said, “The course is going to be flatter than they’re used to.  The race ends with a slight hill with 300 metres to go. So when you’re kicking for home, be sure to save a little extra for that final incline.”   All members of the PCHS team will be required to run the 4km course. Their top 4 finishers will be used for the team event.
