Ten of Port Colborne High School students earned top place and three advanced to the zone competition at the Legion’s Branch Fifty-Sixth’s Annual Literary Contest. Students were encouraged to write a piece of prose or poetry on the topic remembrance. On Wednesday January 9th 2013, students were presented with their awards from the branch’s Youth and Education Representative Doug Brown and school Principal Nigel Evans. Mr. Brown was joined by his wife Sheila Brown during the presentation.
Mr. and Mrs. Brown, who are both alumni of PCHS, shared their appreciation with the students for their participation in this competition. This contest provides Legion members with an opportunity to read the work of young people in our community while also providing students with a chance to reflect and explore the theme of remembrance through a piece of creative writing.
