Ms. Mayne's Art Students get creative with the their own skateboard designs.
This year the grade ten art class made skateboards. The students started with Canadian maple veneers pressing and moulding them into standard street decks. Next they trimmed and prepared the decks to apply edgy graphics. Some students finished the boards with grip tape and mounted trucks to skate them while others experimented with mixed media and created decorative art pieces. Ms. Mayne, the art teacher, introduced the skateboards as a senior level project last year but brought it in to her grade ten class this year where students created the "coolest decks ever". Check out some of our Port High originals when the skate park opens this spring.
